What is blog?
A  blog  is essentially a web page with regular diary or journal entries. The term is short for web log.
In other words,  blog  means a discussion or informational site published on the World Wide Web and consisting of discrete entries (posts) typically displayed in reverse chronological order.

Types of blogs:
1) Personal
2) Business
3) Private
4) Sports
5) How to, Tips, and Reviews
6) Schools
edublogs: blogs used in education are known as edublogs. Edublogs cover a wide range of topics related to education, from musings on educational policy and developments to learner compositions.
           * be set up and used by teacher, by indivual learners or by a class.
         * is used to provide with news, comments on issues, extra reading practice or homework, a summary class for learners who were unable to attend and study tips.
**There are 3 types of edublogs:

1) tutor blogs:
* set homework.
* provide a summary of class work.
* provide links to extra reading, listening material.
* question and answer.
* exam/study tips.

2) student blogs:
* are set up by students.
* personal and family information.
* extra writing practice on class topics.
* regular comments on current affairs.
* research and present information on a topic.
* a photoblog on learners country, last holiday, town.

3) class blogs:
* reactions to a film, article, class topic, current affairs.
* things learners like / don't like doing in class.
* a class project on any topic.
Advantages of using blogs in classrooms:
* provide a real world tool for learners with which to practice their written English.
* way of contacting learners from other parts of the world.
*  enhance students' motivation and engagement.
* promote literacy, collaboration and communicative skills.
* encourage individualized learning, learning by doing and 'test and learn' strategies.
* make learning independent of time and place.
* give a chance to shy students to participate with their peers and get their voice heard.
* makes teaching student oriented.
Disadvantages of using blogs in classrooms:
* easy to start, but hard to maintain.
* can be problem about multiple intelligents.
* supply orientation is still a part of education culture at many schools.
* as everyone can participate on a blog, biased and/or inaccurate information may occur.
* some learners are under heavy time pressure
* in individualistic cultures, some people tend to guard knowledge.
* some education participants are less open than others.
* are a little old-fashioned. Facebook and Twitter's groups and pages take the place of blogs.
